Wedding rings are something which we are probably guilty of overlooking a bit – there are just so many things to think about when planning a wedding.
But as Alison rightly says, wedding rings may be the smallest part of your day but you will look at them every day for the rest of your life, so it’s important to get it right.
Alison’s jewellery is made to order, meaning that you can choose from nine or eighteen carat yellow, white and rose gold, platinum or palladium. Depending, of course, on the metal of your engagement ring. You can also chose whether to have a matte or polished finish.
With all orders, Alison will post you a set of ring sizers, so you can be sure that the bands will fit. Alison also provides a free engraving service and the rings can be packaged in vintage ring boxes – which Alison sources from antique fairs and flea markets.

Alison Macleod: I think I have always been destined to be a jeweller. As a child I loved collecting little bits and bobs, and twisting wire round them to make necklaces. I trained in Jewellery and Silversmithing at Edinburgh College of Art where I learnt my trade making massively expressive pieces. Ten years on – I am enjoying making smaller scale jewellery, but with the same level of decorative intensity that has always inspired me.
I love heirloom jewellery, passed from generation to generation. Each owner of the jewellery instils it with personal meaning and significance. I use a lot of the shapes and patterns from antique jewellery to create work reflecting the past but with a very modern feel.
The Catkin Wedding Ring in 18ct gold is particularly important to me as I initially designed it as my own wedding ring. It is based on an antique ring and I painstakingly constructed the pattern from lots of tiny individual discs.
Only when the ring was completed did I realise it looked just like the Spring catkin flower, which seemed perfect as we were married in the Spring time three years ago. The high gold content of 18ct gives it a beautiful rich yellowy colour. I look at my ring every day and know I will love it forever.
Offering my wedding and engagement rings in the vintage boxes adds to each jewel’s unique preciousness. I am always picking up treasures and curios from junk shops and flea markets. Buying the vintage ring boxes is a good excuse for me to put my collecting habit to good use. I love their little hinges and the old print you quite often see on the underside of the lids.
It may be the smallest part of your wedding day but you will look at your wedding ring every day for the rest if your life, so I reckon its pretty important to get it right.
